The Curious Case of CGI

Zack Snyder after making ‘300’ and ‘Watchmen’ back to back which are both adaptations of popular comics depicting violence and adultery in volumes was touted to create an original in the form of ‘Sucker Punch’ this time.Snyder rose to popularity among the comic-con fanboys and also the Geek circles after his second film ‘300’.The same crowd that lifted him up brought him down after his 3rd release ‘Watchmen’ (personally i liked the movie).
Warner Brothers pumped millions into his new project in the hope that this artistically gifted director would revive their ‘Superman’ franchise despite burning their hands with ‘Watchmen’.Armed with a cheque book from the studio Snyder simply did a mash-up of all the popular Video games and stamped it with “Original Work” all over it.The opening act was beautifully shot in slow motion with a splendid back ground score but later on it gets too repetitive despite the tremendous amount of CGI used to glorify the action.
Not so long ago we have seen how Edgar Wright made ‘Scott Pilgrim vs the world’ also adapted from a comic so much fun to watch.Though it would have easily been branded repetitive because we know what happens next when a new character enters the fold that there would be an “EPIC” fight and Scott pilgrim will emerge victorious.Still Edgar Wright taught us we can use the CGI not just to fuel the massive explosions and huge mass of metal fighting each other(Transformers) but also recreate “fun”tastic movies like his previous works ‘Shaun of the dead’ and ‘Hot fuzz’.
Overall Sucker Punch was an average watch but not as drab as Jonathan Liebesman’s (whom i fondly call Lesbian man) ‘Battle La’ was. However from the vast assembled cast of sexually attractive and titillating ladies i only found the old Carla Gugino enticing .3 months into 2011 and i am still waiting for that perfect movie from all the wood’s combined (Holly,Bolly,Tolly) come 2012 we will have Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’ whom he quotes “If all the super heroes are gods Superman is Zeus”
